Gallblader Cleansing

Removing Gallstones Naturally by Dr. Lai Chiu Nan

Dr. Lai Chiu Nan, a Taiwanese-American researcher and alternative health guru has recommended a way for removing gallstones naturally. According to her, everyone has gallstones, some more or less than others. The gallbladder is located on the right side of the abdomen below the liver. The gallbladder functions to store bile, concentrate it and release it during digestion. Gallstones form when the liquid bile hardens. Their sizes vary from a grain of salt to the size of golfballs.

1 – Liver
2 – Common bile duct
3 – Gallstones
4 – Gallbladder
People who suffer from gallstone attack may experience such excruciating pain that they could have the entire gallbladder surgically removed . Therefore, the natural removal of gallstones may come as a relief to some who may want to try alternative ways before opting for surgery as the last resort. This method actually works! I have personally tried it . Do note that there are a few practitioners who have raised several possible risks associated with this method whereby some say that the gallstones may get stuck in the gallbladder ducts if the gallstones are too big. Some others have warned against using Epsom salts in the procedure. So please make informed decisions and do not hold anyone liable if you have decided to embark on this method. On a more optimistic note, you can find many “success” stories shared over the Internet and health forums where some people can flush up to hundreds of stones in one procedure.
It has worked for many. If it works for you please pass on the good news.  Your reward is when someone through your word of mouth, benefits from this method. Gallstones may not be everyone’s concern, but they should be because we all have them. More so, gallstones may lead to cancer. “Cancer is never the first illness,” Chiu Nan points out. “Usually, there are a lot of other problems leading to cancer.
The treatment is also good for those with a weak liver, because the liver and gallbladder are closely linked.
Regimen:
1. For the first five days, take four glasses of apple juice every day. Or eat four or five apples, whichever you prefer. Apple juice softens the gallstones. During the five days, eat normally.
2. On the sixth day, take no dinner.
3. At 6 PM, take a teaspoon of Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) with a glass of warm water.
4. At 8 PM, repeat the same. Magnesium sulphate opens the gallbladder ducts.
5. At 10 PM, take half cup olive oil (or sesame oil) with half cup fresh lemon juice. Mix it well and drink it. The oil lubricates the stones to ease their passage.
PS. 1cup=250ml, cup lemon juice=3 lemons (aprox.)
The next morning, you will find green stones in your stools. “Usually they float,” Chiu Nan notes. “You might want to count them. I have had people who passes 40, 50 or up to 100 stones. Very many.”
“Even if you don’t have any symptoms of gallstones, you still might have some.
It’s always good to give your gall bladder a clean-up now and then.

INSOMNIA

We’ve all pulled all-nighters, and you know how bad you feel after cramming for  that final exam. But imagine how you’d feel if your entire life consisted of one  all-nighter after another . . . forever. If you feel like a rock instead of  sleep like one, you may be among the people who complain  of occasional bouts with INSOMNIA .

“Insomnia” describes any episode of unrefreshing sleep, difficulty falling  asleep, frequent awakenings, or waking up too early in the morning. Women and  the elderly are the most frequent victims.

There are three types of insomnia :

  1. Transient insomnia is a disturbance in sleeping patterns that lasts only for  a few nights. In such a case, you have a brief run-in with jet lag, excitement,  stress, illness or a change in sleep schedule.  Those with transient insomnia soon return to normal,  and sleeping pills ease the course of the problem. While not conducive to  long-term use, in the short term, sleeping pills provide relief without fear of  dependence or a gradual loss of their effectiveness.
  2. Short-term insomnia is slightly more serious, because it persists for about  two to three weeks. Contributing factors include a job change, divorce, serious  illness, financial problems or the death of a close friend or relative.
  3. Chronic insomnia is the rarest and most serious type, with episodes lasting  longer than a few weeks.   To combat chronic insomnia, you must first rule out the possibility that it  is a symptom of some other underlying health problem. See a doctor to ensure  that such conditions as heart disease, diabetes, epilepsy,  pregnancy, menopause or arthritis are not responsible for the sleep loss. In  addition, medications prescribed for certain health conditions, such as high  blood pressure or asthma, may adversely affect sleep.   Also identify any psychological factors standing in the way of your beauty  rest. If you feel sad, worthless or suicidal, you may be depressed. In fact, one  of the premier symptoms of depression is the inability to go back to sleep after  waking up too early. By treating mental conditions, you can often alleviate the  sleeping problem that is just a manifestation of a larger issue.

Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis  occurs when the space within the spinal canal or around the
nerve roots becomes narrowed
Illustration of narrowed spinal canal
Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of one or more areas in your spine — most
often in your neck or lower back. This narrowing can put pressure on the spinal
cord or spinal nerves at the level of compression.
Depending on which nerves are affected, spinal stenosis can cause pain or
numbness in your legs, back, neck, shoulders or arms; limb weakness and
incoordination; loss of sensation in your extremities; and problems with bladder
or bowel function. Pain is not always present, particularly if you have spinal
stenosis in your neck.
Spinal stenosis is commonly caused by age-related changes in the spine,Most people with spinal stenosis are over 50 years
old. In severe cases of spinal stenosis, doctors may recommend surgery to create
additional space for the spinal cord or nerves.
Symptoms
Many people have evidence of spinal stenosis on X-rays, but have no signs or
symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they often start gradually and worsen over
time. The most common parts of the spine affected by spinal stenosis are the
neck and lower back. Symptoms vary, depending on the location of the stenosis.
Spinal stenosis in the neck
  • Numbness or weakness. Spinal stenosis in your upper
(cervical) spine can cause numbness, weakness or tingling in a leg, foot, arm or
hand. You may drop things more often or have a tendency to fall.
  • Neck or shoulder pain. This may occur if the nerves in your
neck are compressed. However, cervical spinal stenosis often causes no pain. And
neck pain can be caused by problems other than spinal stenosis.
  • Loss of bowel or bladder control. In severe cases of
cervical spinal stenosis, nerves to the bladder or bowel may be affected,
    leading to incontinence.
Spinal stenosis in the lower back
Compressed nerves in your lower (lumbar) spine can cause pain or cramping in your legs when you stand for long periods of time or when you walk. The discomfort usually eases when you bend forward or sit down.
When to see a doctor
Call your doctor if you have numbness or weakness in your back, legs, neck or arms.
Causes
Illustration showing bone spurs and narrowed spinal disks
As your spine ages, it’s more likely to experience bone spurs and thinned or
herniated disks. These problems can reduce the amount of space available for
your spinal cord and its nerve roots.
Many different types of problems can reduce the amount of space within the
spinal canal. The most common of these problems are related to degeneration and
the aging process. Other causes range from birth defects to benign or cancerous
tumors.
Aging-related causes
  • Osteoarthritis. With time, the facet joints between
adjacent vertebrae in your spine deteriorate. In an attempt to repair the
damage, your body may produce bony growths called bone spurs. These bone spurs
    can narrow the spinal passages.
  • Disk degeneration. As you age, the cushions between your
vertebrae flatten and bulge. Eventually, the tough, fibrous outer covering of
the disk may develop tiny tears, causing the jelly-like substance in the disk’s
center to protrude and press on your spinal cord and nerve roots.
  • Thickened ligaments. The tough cords that help hold the
bones of your spine together can become stiff and thick over time. The
thickening along with bulging into the spinal canal can also narrow the spinal
    canal and compress nervous tissue.
Other causes of spinal stenosis
  • Paget’s disease of the bone. In Paget’s disease, your body
generates new bone at a faster than normal rate. This produces soft, weak bones
that are prone to fractures. It can also create bones that are deformed or
abnormally large. If this occurs in the spine, it can reduce the amount of space
    available in the spinal canal.
  • Achondroplasia. This genetic disorder slows the rate at
which bone forms during fetal development and in early childhood, resulting in
dwarfism. People who have this condition are born with narrow spinal canals.
  • Spinal tumors. Abnormal growths can form inside the spinal
cord, within the membranes that cover the spinal cord or in the space between
the spinal cord and vertebrae. Enlarging tumors may compress the spinal cord and
    nerve roots.
  • Spinal injuries. Car accidents and other major trauma can
cause dislocations or fractures of one or more vertebrae. Displaced bone from a
spinal fracture may damage the contents of the spinal canal. Swelling of
adjacent tissue immediately following back surgery also can put pressure on the
    spinal cord or nerves.
It is important to seek medical care / see your primary physician immediately if you have the symptoms.

EPSOM SALT

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URjwfum_azU

Epsom Salt Uses & Benefits

What is Epsom salt?

Epsom salt, is not actually salt but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Long known as a natural remedy for a number of ailments. Epsom salt has numerous health benefits as well as many beauty, household and
gardening-related uses.

Studies have shown that magnesium and sulfate are both readily absorbed
through the skin, making Epsom salt baths an easy and ideal way to enjoy the
amazing health benefits. Magnesium plays a number of roles in the body including
regulating the activity of over 325 enzymes, reducing inflammation, helping
muscle and nerve function and helping to prevent artery hardening. Sulfates help
improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins and help ease migraine
headaches.

Some of the magical benefits of Epsom salt include:

Eases stress and relaxes the body

Stress drains the body of magnesium and increases levels of adrenaline. When dissolved in warm water, Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin and replenishes the level of magnesium in the body. The magnesium helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of calm and
relaxation. Research shows that magnesium also increases energy and stamina by
encouraging the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy packets
made in the cells. Experts believe that bathing with Epsom salt at least three
times a week helps you to look better, feel better and gain more energy.
Magnesium ions also relax and reduce irritability by lowering the effects of
adrenaline. They lower blood pressure, create a relaxed feeling, improve sleep
and concentration, and help muscles and nerves to function properly.

Relieves pain and muscle cramps

An Epsom salt bath is known to ease pain and relieve inflammation, making it
beneficial in the treatment of sore muscles, bronchial asthma and migraine
headaches. In addition, it has been known to heal cuts and reduce soreness from
childbirth. Mix a thick paste of Epsom salt with hot water and apply to get
soothing comfort. Try soaking your aching, tired (and smelly) feet in a tub of
water with half a cup of Epsom salt softens skin and will even neutralize foot odor.

Helps muscles and nerves function properly

Studies show that Epsom salt can help regulate electrolytes in your body,
ensuring proper functioning of the muscles, nerves and enzymes. Magnesium is
also known to be critical in the proper use of calcium, which serves as a main
conductor of the electric impulses in your body.

Helps prevent hardening of arteries and blood clots

Epsom salt is believed to improve heart health and help prevent heart disease
and strokes by improving blood circulation, lowering blood pressure, protecting
the elasticity of arteries, preventing blood clots and reducing the risk of
sudden heart attack deaths.

Makes insulin more effective

Proper magnesium and sulfate levels increase the effectiveness of insulin in
the body, helping to lower the risk or severity of diabetes.

Relieves constipation

Numerous studies have revealed that Epsom salt can be used to treat
constipation. Taken internally, Epson salt acts as a detoxifying agent for colon
cleansing. The salt acts like a laxative by increasing water in the intestines
and can bring about temporary relief from constipation. However, it is strictly
warned that Epsom salts should not be used to relieve constipation without the
consultation of a physician.

Eliminates toxins from the body

The sulfates in Epsom salt help flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells,
easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances. Your
skin is a highly porous membrane and adding the right minerals to your bathwater
triggers a process called reverse osmosis, which actually pulls salt out of your
body, and harmful toxins along with it. For a detoxifying bath, at least once
weekly add two cups of Epsom salt to the water in a bathtub and soak for 10 minutes.

* If you are pregnant or have any health concerns, check with your doctor before using Epsom salts. *

Ear Reflexology

DAILY ROUTINE EAR MASSAGE FOR GENERAL HEALTH

Although it is not commonly practiced like foot & hand reflexology, it works on the same principles.

Ear reflexology can be done easier and quicker in most situations or health conditions where other types of reflexology may not be suitable.  Ear reflexology is often use also to compliment foot & hand reflexology.

There are reflex points in the ears which correspond to specific areas of the body and the internal organs.  Thumb and finger pressure techniques are applied to do ear reflexology, massaging these reflex points stimulates the organs to improves circulation, reduce tension, balance the body energy and achieve homeostasis.  Ear reflexology can benefit in many ways such as relief of stress, alleviate pain, clearing infections, lowering blood pressure, balancing hormones and many other conditions.

The history of reflexology can be traced back to Chinese and Egyptian medical work of about  3000 to 4000 years age.

Sciatica & Piriformis Syndrome

Sciatica is pain resulting from irritation of the sciatic nerve.  The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and begins from nerve roots in the lumbar spinal cord in the low back and extends through the buttock area to send nerve endings down the lower limb. Sciatica pain is typically felt from the low back to behind the thigh and radiating down below the knee.  The leg pain usually goes past the knee and may go farther to the foot, the pain is usually a shooting pain, like electricity .  Sometimes, weakness in the leg muscles occurs with sciatica. It can also burn like fire or tingle much like the feeling when your leg “goes to sleep” , the pain can range from slightly annoying to totally unbearable. Some people have pain in one part of the leg and numbness in another part of the same leg.

Pain from sciatica often limits your activities. Here are some advice for sciatica :

  • Do not bend, lift, or sit in a soft, low chair; your pain will get worse.
  • Try a cold pack to see if it helps the pain. If you don’t have a cold pack, use a large bag of frozen vegetables; it makes a good first aid cold pack. After the cold compress/ massages, try alternating with heat , preferably moist heat.
  • You may feel better lying on your back on a firm surface with a pillow under your knees. Another option is lying on your side with a pillow between your knees to keep your back straight. Also, you might find that a recliner chair is helpful.
  • Take it easy, but do not lie in bed for longer than two days because this has been shown to actually worsen the condition. Do activities you are able to tolerate, and do not expect to feel better overnight.

Piriformis syndrome is irritation of the sciatic nerve caused by compression of the nerve within the buttock by the piriformis muscle. Typically, the pain of the piriformis syndrome is increased by contraction of the piriformis muscle, prolonged sitting, or direct pressure applied to the muscle. The piriformis syndrome can cause difficulty walking due to pain in the buttock and lower extremity.

The piriformis syndrome is one of the causes of sciatica.

The piriformis muscle begins at the front surface of the sacrum (the V-shaped bone between the buttocks at the base of the spine) and passes through the greater sciatic notch to attach to the top of the thigh bone (femur) at its bony prominence called the greater trochanter. The gluteus maximus muscle covers over the piriformis muscle in the buttocks.

The piriformis syndrome is treated with rest and measures to reduce inflammation of the piriformis muscle and its tendon. Treatments include, myo therapy ( medical massage ), piriformis stretching exercises, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory or/ and pain medications. With persistent symptoms, further treatment can include local injection of anesthetic and cortisone medication. Rarely, for severe cases, surgery is performed to relieve the pressure irritating the sciatic nerve. During surgical operations, the piriformis muscle is either thinned, elongated, divided, or removed.

Sooner rather than later , consult your primary health care . Medical Massage is always good to help relieve the pain.

Immune System

The Immune System protects the body againts infection and the development of other ailments including cancer.  Recurrent or chronic infections, even very mild colds, only occur when the immune system is weakened.

Support and enhancement of the immune system is perhaps the most important step in achieving resistance to illness and reducing susceptibility to colds, flus and other infectional diseases

Let’s make sure we all know these factors ;

  • Key Nutrients for supplementation to support the immune system are : vitamin A, carotenes, vitamin C, Vitamin E,  B- vitamins, iron, zinc and selenium.  Nutrients deficiency is the most common cause of low immune function.
  • Supporting the thymus, the major gland of the immune system ( such as with reflexology a non medicinal method), is one of the primary goals of a therapy.
  • The spleen is important in fighting and destroying bacterial infection, it releases many potent immune system enhancing compounds like tuftsin &  splenopentin.
  • The herbs enchinacea and astragalus exert broad spectrum positive effects on immune system.
  • The mind, emotion and stress have tremendous impact on immune function.  A relaxation massage, meditation or reiki session will help calms the mind.
  • Alcohol consumption apparently inhibits white blood cell activity, the more alcohol consumed, the greater the impairment of white blood cell mobility.
  • Obesity is associated with decreased immune status.

wishing you a very healthy day , today and everyday …

Arthritis – part 2

THE ARTHRITIS NUTRITIONAL

Apples one of the most all-around helpful food to take care of your general health.  They have both soluble and insoluble fiber, a combination that helps to reduce serum cholesterol.  The pectinin apples absorbs excess water in the intestinal tract , thus helps aiding bowel movement.

Bananas are high in vitamin B6 , potassium and iron.  They helps with weight loss as they are rich in fibers, low in fat, quite filling and feed the natural acidophilus bacteria in the intestine for proper digestion.

Carrots are not only high in vitamin A but they are also loaded with beta-carotene which helps fight inflammation and it has fat-soluble antioxidant along with other carotenoids which tend to lower C-reactive protein level.

Flaxseed and flaxseed oil are rich in alpha linolenic acid, a precursor to the form of Omega-3 called EPA, one of the the most potent anti-inflammatory.  Use flaxseed oil in salads or in fruit smoothies, but never cook with it, as it has a tendency to oxidize when heated.

Ginger is derived from the underground rhizome of a plant native to south asia, most versatile medicinal foods high on antioxidant.  It helps cough & colds , best natural anti-nausea agents , decreasing pain for arthritis and protect joints in the body with ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties.

Oranges not only are ripe with vitamin C but also contain the flavanone herperidin, which has lowered cholesterol and has strong anti-inflammatory properties.  But most of this phytonutrient is in the peel and inner white pith, so when you peel the orange, leave plenty of the soft white skin on.

Papayas is rich in carotenes, vitamin C , flavonoids , B vitamins, folate, pottasium, magnesium and fiber.  It also contains papain, a digestive enzyme used to treat sport injuries and allergies.

Sweet Potatoes have vitamin C & A , potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.  They also have vitamin B6 to break down homocystein, a toxic amino acid that can directly damage blood vessel walls.

Tumeric , one of the component of tumeric is curcumin, a powerful anti -inflammatory  property that is said to be 50% as effective as cortisone.  in traditional chinesse medicine tumeric has been used to treat blood disorders and liver problems, and is known to serve as powerfulCOX-2 inhibitor, with none of  the side effects .

Water .. especially mineral water, is one of the most nutrious, arthritis friendly drink.  Dehydration can exacerbate the pain caused by arthritis.  When you dont drink enough water ( 60 to 80 ounces a day ) inflammation becomes worse.

like Irma always says : …. ” Water … Water … Water ”

Please take care of your health and prevention is better than cure ….

Arthritis

Arthritis is one of the oldest and most chronic diseases in the world.  Arthritis includes more then one hundred different disorders characterized by pain, swelling and limited range of motion in the joints, from rhematoid arthritis, to the most common osteoathritis.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthiritis, caused by the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage in one or more joints.  Because osteoarthritis is essentially a degenerative disease, it occurs more frequently and with greater severity as you age, primarily from wear and tear on the joints.  The progression of osteoarthritis varies from person to person, some are engaging in a strenous activity such as martial arts training, soccer matches or high impact exercises, and others experience daily pain that gradually gets worse.  Although osteoarthritis is not life-threatening, it takes a severe toll on an individual’s quality of life.

Treatments for osteoarthritis fall into four stages ;

stage one : Lifestyle modification with proper exercise, diet and nutritional supplements.

stage two : Supplementing stage one with conventional oral medication and/or a wide range of integrative practitioners without resorting to physically invasive procedure.

stage three : Makes use of minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure such as cortisone injections.

stage four : Encompasses a variety of invasive surgical procedures.

The most important step in treating arthritis pain is to visit medical doctor to determine that the complaints of pain are actually caused by arthritis not other disease or ailments including auto immune and/or neuromuscular.

Rhematoid and Psoriatic arthritis are another forms of arthritis that scientists are not sure of the caused for those to develops, they suspects that an unidentified virus stimulates the immune system.  As a result, the disease-fighting cells inflame the joints, that destroys the cartilage.  These forms of arthiritis are far less common then osteoarthritis.

OMG … I’ve got PAIN !

Pain is decribed as an unpleasant experience with feeling of discomfort.  On this particular note, we will talk about Pain associated with actual or potential tissue damage.

Pain is the body message that telling us something somewhere is not right. Head, Neck, Shoulders or lower back pain are the most common in 90% of population.  These are not diseases in themselves but are symptoms of a dysfunction in associated structures in our body.

Although Myoskeletal pain is not reserved for the elderly but in one way or the other, most people of old age suffer from pain due to lack of physical activities/exercise which resulting muscle weakness or stiffness and restricted joint movement.  In younger people , pain mostly caused by either poor posture and bad body mechanics on a repetitive action or from earlier physical trauma related.

Acute Pain, is when we know exactly where it hurts, usually results from tissue damage such as broken bone or skin burn.  Acute pain can also associated with muscle cramp, headaches, or neck injury.  This type of pain often goes away as the cause removed or treated and heals.

Chronic Pain, is generally described as a long term and persistent discomfort.  Pain that still lingers after an injury heals, or persistently come and go with a degenerative disease.  Chronic pain may also be caused by the body’s response to acute pain.

In conclusion, despite its unpleasantness, pain has to be appreciated for it is a mechanism that allow us to avoid dangerous situation, help prevent further tissue damage and promotes healing process.
